I am trying to convince my organization not to get rid of h1 page headings. They think it's fine to hide them if the page name is highlighted in the navigation bar. Does anyone know of any research to support this? Or any articles on the importance of page headers. I think it is a no brainer. But evidently I need to make a more convincing argument.

For an example of their fondness to hide page headings see our website:

Perhaps you can do some test and ask this question to the participant: "Can you tell which page you are on right now?"

My personal thought: unless there's a good business reason to show the heading, the current treatment is sufficient for visual cue.
